A new UNEP report warns that returning to 1.5°C global warming by 2100 requires greenhouse gas emission cuts of 69% by 2040 compared to 2025 levels.
The assessment reveals that current climate policies put the world on a path toward 2.8°C of warming by the end of the century.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized that while the goal is challenging, returning temperatures to 1.5°C remains the best remaining option for minimizing climate impacts.
