The National Medical Commission (NMC) officially withdrew the Maintenance of Standards of Medical Education Regulations, 2023 effective October 17.
Healthcare activists warned that the withdrawal removes specific penalty clauses, such as fines up to ₹1 crore for colleges and ₹5 lakh for faculty submitting false records.
An NMC official stated the decision aimed to streamline regulatory powers and eliminate overlapping responsibilities following a legal review.
