Pakistan summoned U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker on August 19, 2026, to lodge a formal protest against remarks made by U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor regarding Jammu and Kashmir.
During his visit to the Union Territory, Ambassador Gor described Jammu and Kashmir as an important part of India and indicated that the U.S. would reconsider travel advisories for the region.
Pakistan's Foreign Office rejected the characterisation, asserting that the territory remains disputed under UNSC resolutions and claiming the U.S. ambassador's statement negated the long-standing position of the United States.
