Over 70,000 evacuated in Odisha as heavy rain causes floods

The Odisha government evacuated over 70,000 people to 395 relief camps across 13 districts on Saturday following heavy rainfall and swelling rivers.

Balasore was among the worst-hit areas, where the Subarnarekha River flowed at 11.07 meters at Jaleswar's Rajghat, exceeding the 10.36-meter danger mark.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi scheduled an aerial survey of south Odisha on Sunday morning, while 16 sluice gates of the Hirakud Dam were opened to release excess water.
