Paraguay Senate removes President Santiago Pena in impeachment proceedings

Paraguay’s Senate voted to remove President Santiago Pena for misconduct in office following impeachment proceedings initiated against him.

Following his removal, Pena was placed under house arrest on November 7.

Vice-President Pedro Alliana was sworn in as interim President, with both leaders belonging to the ruling Colorado Party.
