Passengers in Bengaluru welcomed the Central Consumer Protection Authority's action against pre-ride tipping prompts on ride-hailing platforms to curb coercive pricing practices.

Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare stated on September 16, 2026, that the government directed aggregators to stop advance tipping options, a day after fining Rapido 10 lakh rupees.

Drivers raised concerns that the restriction affects daily earnings amid high platform commissions, while union leaders called for a sustainable metered fare structure of at least 40 rupees.
