Nepali rescue teams pulled two workers alive from the Trishuli 3A hydropower tunnel on Friday, nine days after a glacier-triggered flash flood buried the site.

The survivors, 30-year-old Sanjay Shah and 45-year-old Kabir Maharjan, are the first rescued from the project where at least 557 workers remain missing.

The disaster has killed 1,294 people in Nepal and 31 in Tibet, with a 15-member Australian drone specialist team joining local operations to locate the estimated 115 trapped in the tunnel.
