Russia backs India's bid for permanent UNSC seat at UNGA

Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov endorsed India and Brazil's candidatures for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council during his UN General Assembly address.

Lavrov stated that any Council reform must not allocate additional seats to Western countries like Germany and Japan, criticizing them for moving toward militarism and revanchism.

Several countries including Mauritius and Portugal also voiced support for India's candidature and structural reform of the Security Council during the general debate.
