The Supreme Court ruled that once prosecution proves a public servant possesses assets disproportionate to income, the burden shifts to the accused to explain the wealth.
A bench of Justices Sanjay Kumar and Sanjeev Sachdeva stated that investigators are not required to embark on an endless search for every conceivable income source.
The ruling came while dismissing an appeal by former Kerala government official V Gopalakrishnan, upholding his corruption conviction under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
