Gujarat health authorities confirmed 39 cases and 23 deaths from the Chandipura virus between June 30 and August 8, 2026, following an expansion of state surveillance.
Out of 217 suspected cases reported during this period, 208 laboratory results have been processed, with nine samples still awaiting confirmation from health officials.
The state has deployed hundreds of health teams to conduct door-to-door surveillance and insecticide spraying, particularly in the Panchmahal district where initial fatalities were recorded.
