Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena announced the creation of Sankoo as Ladakh's eighth district, carved out of the Kargil district.
The newly established district will comprise the tehsils of GM Pore, TSG, and Taisuru to decentralize administration and improve public service access.
Five additional tehsils were also announced across different regions, bringing Ladakh's total number of tehsils to 37.
