New ESC Guidelines Recommend Kidney Screening for Heart Patients

The European Society of Cardiology and the European Renal Association have released new guidelines recommending that all patients diagnosed with cardiovascular disease be screened for chronic kidney disease.

The guidelines, presented at the ESC Congress 2026, introduce the 'STAMP' acronym to guide clinicians in screening, triaging, and modifying treatments for patients with both conditions.

Experts emphasize that early use of RAS inhibitors and SGLT2 inhibitors is critical for reducing the risk of cardiovascular events and slowing the progression of kidney disease in at-risk individuals.
