
The Bureau of Indian Standards revised hallmarking charges, raising the fee for gold articles from ₹45 to ₹75 with immediate effect.
The change was notified through the BIS Amendment Regulations, 2026, dated September 14, 2026, while the silver hallmarking fee remains at ₹35.
The All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council urged the government and BIS to immediately review the decision and retain the existing charge.
