IIT Delhi Director Prof Rangan Banerjee rejected immediate faculty resignations over student Rishikesh Kumar's death, urging students to wait two weeks for an independent inquiry led by Justice Mukta Gupta.
The institute plans to increase its current count of 15 counsellors, audit mental health systems with alumni, and provide financial support to the deceased student's family within one week.
Banerjee confirmed that no punitive or disciplinary action will be taken against protesting students and pledged to prioritize student wellness and infrastructure for his remaining six months in office.
