US Imposes Sweeping Sanctions on 27 Iranian Airlines

The US Treasury Department designated 27 Iranian airlines for sanctions on Tuesday, aiming to isolate the nation's aviation sector as part of the 'Economic D-Day' campaign.

The measures target international procurement networks operating through Turkey, the UAE, Malaysia, and Kazakhstan that facilitate aircraft transfers and maintenance for carriers like Mahan Air.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that foreign companies providing financial or operational support to these sanctioned airlines risk being cut off from the global financial system.
