The Supreme Court directed the Election Commission of India to respond by Monday regarding the timeline to resolve the dispute between rival AITC factions over the party name and symbol.
A bench headed by CJI Surya Kant noted that while bypolls cannot be touched as candidates have already filed nominations, the ECI must decide the main dispute expeditiously.
The ECI previously froze the 'Flowers and Grass' symbol on September 17, recognizing the Ritabrata Banerjee faction as Democratic Trinamool Congress and the Mamata faction as Mamata All India Trinamool Congress.
