Spain Mobilizes Resources After 57 Migrants Die at Ceuta Border

At least 57 migrants died while attempting to enter the Spanish enclave of Ceuta from Morocco, as approximately 60,000 people crossed the border by land and sea within 24 hours.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez condemned the influx as a violation of territorial sovereignty, while authorities confirmed that 25,000 individuals were repatriated to Morocco on Friday, July 31, 2026.

The surge follows a Spanish Supreme Court ruling regarding migrant returns, prompting France to tighten border controls and Italy to threaten a suspension of the Schengen agreement with Spain.
