India-born female cheetah KGP12 gave birth to four cubs on Thursday at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh, bringing the total number of surviving Indian-born cheetahs to 36.
Union environment minister Bhupendra Yadav hailed the birth as a historic milestone for Project Cheetah, while field director Uttam Sharma confirmed forest staff spotted the cubs on Friday.
The park currently hosts 53 cheetahs, with preparations finalized to establish a third home for the species at Rani Durgavati Tiger Reserve.
