Severe cyclonic storm Murasu began its landfall process near Ongole in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday at around 1 am, bringing gale-force winds of up to 120 kmph and heavy rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department reported the system was centred 40 km southeast of Ongole, prompting the cancellation of at least 19 domestic flights across Vijayawada, Tirupati and Visakhapatnam airports.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to remain on high alert, while Karnataka deployed 500 skilled electricity workers to assist with post-cyclone power restoration.
