Centre to Refer FCRA Amendment Bill to Joint Parliamentary Committee

The Union government will move a resolution in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday to refer the controversial Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, to a Joint Parliamentary Committee.

The decision follows widespread opposition, including a unanimous resolution by the Tamil Nadu Assembly and mass protests in Mizoram against provisions that allow government seizure of NGO assets.

The Bill, introduced on March 25, proposes that if an FCRA certificate is cancelled or lapses, all assets created with foreign funds vest in a government-appointed authority without judicial oversight.
