GRSE Launches Indigenous Ocean Research Vessel Sagar Manthan

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers launched the indigenous ocean research vessel 'Sagar Manthan' in Kolkata on September 9, 2026, to support India's Deep Ocean Mission.

The ₹840-crore vessel measures 89.5 metres in length, features a 5,900-tonne gross tonnage, and is expected to be fully operational by early 2028.

Equipped with advanced seismic and oceanographic instruments, the ship will conduct research in the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal, and Southern Ocean at depths of up to 6 km.
