India to Ease BIS Certification for High-Tech Industries

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal announced on August 25, 2026, that India will exempt high-tech industries from certain Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification requirements within two months.

The policy shift aims to address concerns from the semiconductor and automotive sectors, facilitating easier access to global components and boosting domestic manufacturing capabilities.

This regulatory easing is part of a broader strategy to integrate India into the global supply chain, with the government currently negotiating Free Trade Agreements with 8 to 9 major blocs.
