Friends, family and political leaders gathered in Delhi on Thursday to pay tribute to 54-year-old Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh, who succumbed to injuries after an alleged racial assault in Kilokari village on Sunday night.
Addressing the gathering, Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi called the murder tragic because the victim was allegedly attacked due to his origins, renewing safety concerns and discussions about discrimination faced by northeastern people in the capital.
Gandhi urged people not to respond with anger or hatred, but to express themselves, defend their values and demonstrate their talent, while former Manipur CM Okram Ibobi Singh also highlighted ongoing discrimination in larger cities.
