New Liquid Treatment Offers Drill-Free Solution for Tooth Decay

University of Michigan researchers found that silver diamine fluoride (SDF) can stop tooth decay in children without the need for drilling, shots, or sedation.

A trial of 830 children under six years old showed that a 38 percent concentration of SDF successfully arrested decay in over half of affected baby teeth.

While the treatment is affordable at $20 to $75 per application, it causes permanent dark staining on the decayed portion of the tooth.
