US replaces Duration of Status with fixed four-year F-1 visa

The US government is replacing Duration of Status with a fixed admission period of up to four years for F-1 visa international students from September 15, 2026.

The post-completion grace period to apply for Optional Practical Training is being reduced from 60 days to 30 days.

A proposed $100,000 fee on OPT is currently under consideration for February 2027 and faces significant opposition from universities and employers.
