Sri Lankan opposition lawmaker Mano Ganesan urged President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to seek Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's help regarding a Tamil youth facing judicial proceedings in Saudi Arabia.
The appeal concerns Anojan Sivarasa, whose family claims he was sentenced to death over a social media post allegedly amounting to blasphemy, though the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry has not confirmed this.
Sivarasa was reportedly sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of three million Saudi riyals, with defense counsel informing the embassy that the sentence may have been enhanced to capital punishment.
