New York Governor Kathy Hochul called for an independent investigation on Tuesday into Cornell University's response to a 2024 gang rape allegation involving a student.
The victim filed a lawsuit stating she was sexually assaulted by seven students at the Chi Phi fraternity house in October 2024 after being pressured into consuming drugs and alcohol.
While the local district attorney reopened the criminal investigation amid public outrage, Cornell stated that its internal inquiry led to student discipline and expulsion.
