A three-year-old tigress named T138 was translocated from Bihar's Valmiki Tiger Reserve and released into West Bengal's Buxa Tiger Reserve on October 2, 2026.
The initiative marks the beginning of a phased reintroduction program aimed at establishing a self-sustaining tiger population in Buxa, where resident numbers had declined.
The tigress will initially be kept in a 2.3-hectare enclosure for acclimatization and subjected to intensive post-release monitoring via telemetry and camera trapping.
