The U.S. House of Representatives passed a legislation targeting Russia's energy sector by a 262-159 vote on Wednesday, empowering the U.S. President to impose tariffs of up to 100% on India and other countries.
The Bill targets top importers of Russian crude oil or natural gas and those facilitating sanctions evasion, and will now be sent to President Donald Trump for his signature.
The legislation includes provisions for presidential waivers in the national interest and exempts countries that have taken significant steps to reduce gas imports or whose imports remain below 15%.
