Trump rejects Iran deal proposal to reopen Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resuming nuclear talks within seven days if the U.S. lifts naval blockades, waives oil sanctions, and observes a ceasefire including Lebanon.

U.S. President Donald Trump rejected the proposal within hours on Friday, citing skepticism over Tehran meeting demands and indicating a renewed bombing campaign as likely.

Mr. Araghchi detailed the plan during a private gathering on September 24 at the UN General Assembly, suggesting a speedy agreement would assist President Trump ahead of November's midterm elections.
