French President Emmanuel Macron condemned unrestrained violence after nationwide protests against living costs and school conditions led to at least 1,800 arrests.
Protests drew roughly 5,50,000 participants according to authorities, while organizers estimated 8,00,000, amid severe property destruction and the collapse of Limoges city hall.
Macron instructed prefects and mayors to protect public buildings and businesses, warning that looters must pay for damages and insurrectionists will be held accountable.
