Startup Besxar has secured a deal to prototype an orbital semiconductor factory using SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket boosters across a dozen upcoming flights.
The company, which raised $14 million in funding, aims to leverage the vacuum of space to manufacture high-quality semiconductor wafers without the need for pressurized clean rooms.
Initial tests on a July Starlink mission confirmed that Besxar's canisters could protect wafer samples from contamination, with the company now planning to scale production over the next two years.
