The Supreme Court on Friday denied bail to paediatrician Praveen Soni, arrested for prescribing Coldrif cough syrup linked to 26 child deaths in Madhya Pradesh.
Prosecution tests found the syrup contained 46.28% diethylene glycol, far exceeding the 0.1% permissible limit, causing acute kidney injury in children.
The bench observed the case could attract life imprisonment unless the defence proves the absence of requisite knowledge, but permitted Soni to renew his plea after a year.
