Google rolled back its AI image generation feature in Google Earth on July 31, just one day after its July 30 launch, following reports of misuse.
The feature, powered by the Nano Banana 2 AI model, was disabled after users shared realistic deepfake images of terror attacks and violence on social media platform X.
Google stated it is currently implementing stronger guardrails to prevent the creation of harmful content before considering any future reinstatement of the image generation capabilities.
