A Pune-based lawyer who joined the Nihang Sikh sect was arrested for attacking Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal in Nanded, Maharashtra, on August 14.
The accused has been remanded to police custody until August 24, while Badal was discharged from the hospital after receiving medical treatment for his injuries.
The incident has intensified political tensions in Punjab, with the SAD leadership demanding a high-level probe into the security lapse at the Nanded Gurdwara.
