Storm Nolo rapidly intensified into a Category 3 hurricane in the remote Pacific Ocean west of Hawaii, featuring maximum sustained winds of 115 mph.
The National Hurricane Center reported the storm was located about 210 miles south-southwest of Maro Reef, prompting a tropical storm warning for the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument.
Forecasters stated that large surf will likely inundate low-lying atolls, with Nolo expected to cross the international date line on Sunday without threatening populated islands.
