BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya stated that West Bengal is likely to be officially renamed 'Paschim Banga' to preserve its historical identity.
Bhattacharya claimed a bill to effect the name change would be introduced in the first Assembly session if the party forms the government.
He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address marking 25 years in public life and backed Assam's madrasa board merger.
