Viagra Ingredient May Help Curb Cancer Metastasis

Researchers at Israel's Weizmann Institute of Science found that sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, may help stop cancer from spreading by regulating cholesterol in cells.

The study, published in Cancer Research, indicates that sildenafil blocks an enzyme to reduce cholesterol availability, which cancer cells require to form metastases in distant organs.

Data collected over 20 years suggests that combining sildenafil with cholesterol-lowering statins may improve survival rates in cancer patients by restricting the spread of tumors.
