Two More Patients Cured of HIV via Stem Cell Transplants

European AIDS Treatment Group1h
THE BRIEF
1

Two additional patients have been reported free of HIV following stem cell transplants for cancer treatment, bringing the total number of potential cure cases to 13.

2

The cases, presented at AIDS 2026, include the first patient with hepatitis B co-infection and the youngest patient to undergo the procedure to date.

3

While stem cell transplantation remains a high-risk procedure reserved for advanced cancer patients, these cases provide critical biological data for developing future HIV cure therapies.
