LSR suspends classes after police encounter near college gate

Lady Shri Ram College for Women suspended classes from Tuesday noon after a police encounter with an accused in the Astha Kunj Park gang-rape case occurred near its back gate.

The shootout took place when police intercepted Asif, one of three suspects in the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old, who opened fire and was subsequently shot in the leg.

The incident heightened safety fears among students, with the students union noting that 2,000 to 3,000 women live around the park, prompting many to consider leaving Delhi temporarily.
