A 23-year-old tea garden worker named Sumit Kalandi was arrested in Assam’s Dibrugarh district for the alleged rape and murder of a 22-year-old woman.
The victim, a mother of a two-year-old boy, went missing on Friday morning and her body was recovered from an abandoned pit in the Chabua area on Saturday afternoon.
Police said the accused confessed to the crime after being detained, stating he killed her because she maintained contact with other people.
