India Maintains Total Fertility Rate at 2.0 in SRS Report

India maintained its national Total Fertility Rate (TFR) at 2.0, matching the figure reported in 2020 according to the Sample Registration System (SRS) Statistical Report of 2021.

State and Union Territory data revealed wide regional variation, with Bihar recording the highest TFR at 3.0 and West Bengal and Delhi reporting the lowest at 1.4.

The data showed an overall decline in TFR across states and nationally between the 2009-11 and 2019-21 decades.
