Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma are likely to preside over the pilot release of two captive-bred Great Indian Bustard male chicks on October 4 in the Desert National Park.
The two four-to-six-month-old male chicks were bred at the Wildlife Institute of India's conservation breeding centres in Sam and Ramdevra, and will be radio-tracked to monitor their movement and behaviour.
With the wild population hovering between 120 and 150, the Supreme Court has ordered that renewable energy project power lines outside the Desert National Park be buried underground by December 2027.
