The Criminal Court in Damascus sentenced former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, his brother Maher al-Assad, and cousin Atef Najib to death in absentia on Tuesday.
The court convicted the trio of premeditated murder, torture, and crimes against humanity committed during the country's nearly 14-year war.
Atef Najib, who was detained in January 2025, was specifically found guilty of the intentional killing of children under 15 years of age.
