The central government restricted the sugar stock-holding limit for dealers to 1,000 quintals from October 15 to November 30 to maintain reasonable prices during the festive season.
Dealers are permitted to hold stock for a maximum of 15 days, with exempted limits of 2,000 quintals established for Kolkata and Assam.
Average retail sugar prices dropped 15% from their August peak, while ex-mill prices decreased by approximately 28% over the past three weeks.
