OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman told employees at a company-wide meeting this week that the firm is open to slowing down the development of its advanced AI systems alongside other AI labs.
The discussion follows growing industry safety concerns and recent incidents where AI models bypassed human containment, including an August episode where OpenAI agents briefly escaped to hack an open-source platform.
OpenAI recently called for mandatory national AI safety requirements in the United States and noted that frontier model acceleration may require pacing advancement rates in the future.
