Researchers at the German Cancer Research Center have discovered that WNT signaling pathway activation suppresses CCL20 production, allowing BRAF-mutated colorectal tumors to evade the immune system.
Approximately 55,000 people are diagnosed with colorectal cancer annually in Germany, with about 25% of cases originating from serrated lesions that often respond poorly to standard therapies.
The study, published in the journal Gastroenterology, suggests that combining WNT inhibitors with immunological treatments could offer a potential strategy to slow tumor growth in aggressive cancer cases.
