The Bureau of Indian Standards raised the hallmarking fee for gold articles from ₹45 to ₹75 while keeping the silver charge at ₹35.
The amendment takes effect immediately ahead of the festive season under the BIS Hallmarking Amendment Regulations, 2026.
The All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council expressed concern over the nearly 67 percent hike, urging the government to review the decision.
