The Allahabad High Court directed the Uttar Pradesh government and State Election Commission to complete three-tier panchayat elections within three months.
The state government had previously deferred the elections—due after terms expired in May 2026—to await a report from the Dedicated Backward Classes Commission on OBC reservations.
Panchayati Raj Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar welcomed the order and stated the state is ready to comply, while village head representatives announced plans to challenge it in the Supreme Court.
