Providence Day and Hough Set for Historic Football Matchup

Providence Day and Hough high schools are set for a historic football game on Friday, marking the first time Mecklenburg County public and private state champions have faced each other.

The matchup is the first of a two-year contract between the schools, with the 2027 game scheduled to be hosted at Providence Day.

Historically, public-private school games in the region were rare, but the current athletic landscape allows for non-league matchups between the county's public schools and CISAA members.
